Holiday Party Entertainment for San Diego Companies: Magic, Mentalism, and What Works Best

A company holiday party is one of the few times a year when everyone in the organization is in the same room, away from their desks. The right entertainment turns a pleasant dinner into an evening people talk about in January. Here’s how corporate magician and mentalist Dana Law approaches holiday events for San Diego companies, and what to consider as you plan yours.
What kind of entertainment works best at a company holiday party?
The best choice depends on the shape of your event. Most holiday parties fall into one of three formats:
A cocktail reception or mixer. Guests are standing, mingling, and moving between food stations and conversations. Strolling close-up magic works best here, because the performer comes to the guests, one small group at a time, and no one has to stop what they’re doing.
A seated dinner or program. When there’s a natural moment for everyone to focus on the front of the room, a stage show gives the evening a shared highlight. Dana’s Comedy Magic Experience and Mind to Mind mentalism show are both designed for this setting.
A combination. Many companies book strolling magic during the reception, followed by a short stage show after dinner. It gives guests a personal moment early in the evening and a shared one later.
Why magic and mentalism work so well for corporate groups
Holiday parties bring together people who don’t always work side by side: different departments, new hires, leadership, and sometimes spouses and partners. Close-up magic and mind reading give them something to react to together. A trick that happens in someone’s own hands, or a thought revealed in front of their coworkers, becomes a conversation that carries through the rest of the night.
Unlike music or a DJ, which fill the background, interactive magic creates moments guests remember and retell. It also works for a wide range of personalities, including guests who would never volunteer for a party game.
Can the entertainment work if employees bring their families?
Yes. Some company holiday events are family celebrations, with employees bringing spouses, children, and parents. For those, Dana offers a Family & Multigenerational Show, designed so that young children, teens, and adults all enjoy the same performance together.
How far in advance should you book?
December is the busiest month of the year for corporate entertainment, and the most popular dates, especially Friday and Saturday evenings in the first three weeks of December, fill first. As a general guide, book at least four to six weeks ahead, and earlier for larger events or prime dates. If your date is closer than that, it’s still worth asking. Openings do come up, particularly on weeknights.

What should you have ready when you inquire?
To get an accurate proposal quickly, it helps to know:
The date, start time, and venue
The approximate number of guests
The format of the evening, such as reception, dinner, or both
Whether guests will be seated, standing, or moving around
Any program elements, such as speeches or awards, that the entertainment should work around
Every performance can be structured to match the flow of your event, so there’s no need to have every detail settled before you reach out.
